First Steps After Appointment

1. Get Your Official Documents

✔ Receive your Signed Order & Judgment from the court.

✔ File your Oath and Designation (notarized) with the county clerk.

✔ Obtain a Fiduciary Bond (if required).

✔ Get your Guardianship Commission – this is your legal proof of guardianship.

2. Organize Your Ward’s Affairs

✔ Locate financial records, legal documents, medical history.

✔ Open a Guardianship Bank Account – never mix personal funds.

✔ Contact Social Security, pension funds, and creditors to update payment details.

✔ Visit your ward and assess medical and housing needs.

Deadline Alert:

You must submit a 90-Day Initial Report to the court within 3 months of receiving your commission.
